It's a very bizarre situation. The people who are putting on the convention had originally posted back in June, advertising that Randy was going to be there with no definitive proof.

A few days ago, Bobby Gant, who HAD been definitely confirmed to be there, pulled out, with his reps saying that ticket sales weren't what they had expected them to be.

Now, that leaves a few scenarios: Randy is doing this as a personal favor for Bobby, Randy is doing this to promote the two films tAB has done, trying to eventually shop them around to film festivals in Europe, as well as the US, Randy is interested in broadening his horizons regarding stage work (perhaps Europe). He's particularly enamoured w/ a couple of European playwrights (in addition to Beckett) and directors, one in particular in Berlin.

Or, it could also be that TPTB who are running the convention are optimisitic that he'll accept.

*shrugs* Maybe it's his way of dealing w/the break up!

Either way, it's an extremely odd situation!

So v. bizarre! The favor scenario I can almost see, hmm. I know the bigger cons can help put out word for movies, but it sounds like this one is small. I'm not sure how much good it'll do, but then I don't know how cons work overseas. The broadening one could be, but it seems he'd rather pay his own way and avoid QaF fans. Anyway, like you say, it's all so weird! Will be interesting to see what comes of all this.

It's true they broke up. I can't tell you where I got the news myself but it is definitely true. Just wanted to confirm that for you.
