oh, baby

Well, huh. Turns out Luke and Noah calling each other "baby" in fic makes me just as O.o as Brian and Justin doing it. Which, gotta admit, mildly surprises me. If it was going to fly with any couple, you'd think it'd be the touchy-feely-romantic Luke/Noah. But nope. My eye still twitches.

Hmm, more I think about it, I'm not sure there is any slash pairing that could use "baby" in a serious way (I can totally hear B/J snarking it to each other) and not make me gag. And yet I know people use this word everyday and it's okay. But have me read one, "You know I love you, baby!" and eye? Twitching! Crazy, I tell ya.

Oh, wait! Emmett could totally pull it off. Okay, so Em/Drew. But that's it.

Daytime Emmy pics! I doodled about the night, but never got to squee over the actual pics. SO NOW I *SQUEEEEEE*. And generally just gather the photos together in one post because I am OCD like that aldfja. Icons soon.

It's ridiculous just how adorable they are together. Boy&girlfriends aside, they're so OTP. Just like Gale and Randy. Only with comics and Mt. Everest added. ♥ Y'know, with the sunglasses and suits, Van and the Jakester look like an FBI team waiting to solve crimes AND I WOULD SO TOTALLY WATCH THAT.

*SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEE*

Okay, I feel better now.

Also, check out the wad of moola (I think it is) in Van's wallet in this last one. I'm partying with Van kthx. O.o

Thank goodness Luke's gonna be on today. I'd rather it was L/N, but, baby, anything before August 18 is looking good to me. And I mean that, baby.

Oh, good, I was wondering if I was the only one! Though, in Luke and Noah's case I can just pretend it didn't happen and go on reading. If it happens in a Brian/Justin fic I stop immediately - it's teh wrong.

Hello, we are brain twins. *nods* I mean, with B/J, it's so OOC, it just pulls me out of the story But with (most) L/N, it's like after my initial *um no* moment, that "baby" incident gets a pass and I keep enjoying the story. So weird.

i really really want some decent rps with these two but i have no idea what they DO in their spare time. although i guess that knowledge would only be required to write the fic...uuuhm. hmm. nvm. i want decent rps, period!

The severe lack of good RPS in this fandom is quite depressing. The G/R stuff from the early days has spoiled me. :\ And I'm sadly lacking in a lot of off-time details too. I know they both like comics and BUY THEM FOR EACH OTHER. *dies*

I'm totally with you on the 'baby' thing. I actually have said something about it, because one of my friends uses it in Nuke fic, but I respect that to her, it seems in character.

As for the last pic of Van with his parents, I don't think that's money that we're seeing; I'm not even sure it's his wallet. It looks more like paper or cards to me, but who knows. What kills me are his dad's shoes. They don't go with his suit, they're worn and scuffed, but you know he's probably had them forever, and they're his only "dress" pair.

*giggles* someone mentioned this post to me and I was going to defend my honor in using the word, and yours in always being nice about it even though it makes you postal.

I'd love it if someone, anyone really, who doesn't like luke/noah using the word could tell me why. What is it about it that grates on them? Is there any endearment that could replace it? Or is it just anti-endearmentness?

Aw, I'm glad you popped in. And no worries, I'm far from postal. :D

That is a really good question! I've tried substituting some other endearments, but nothing seems to be working. Though! I did discover that what really works for me is when L/N (and other slash couples) put the affection into their actual names. Like whenever Luke will say Noah's name and you can just hear all the love in it. It becomes this really personal endearment between them. Another way that works for me is when characters have a specific nickname that's affectionate more than the usual "baby" and "darling", etc. Like for QaF, Brian frequently calls Justin "Sunshine" in fic and it has this sarcastic edge that's affectionate at the same time without being too sweet. So I'm definitely not anti-endearment. It's just tricky finding the right one to please me. ;D

I'll bite on the Sunshine one. I'm not a fan of darling, or honey, and I'm not in the habit of writing baby, but Luke just seems like someone who would use it. I'm sort of oddly fascinated with who does/doesn't like endearments, because i wonder if it's some weird QaF thing that filters into the rest of life.

Fortunately, as qafaddiction said, she can overlook it when she reads. I'll just hope others do as well, and use it sparingly.

Aw, LOL at me being postal (it doesn't really bother me that much, but since it's pretty much the ONLY thing in your fics that I have ever had a less-than-completely-positive reaction to, I guess I had to say something to you! LOL). I'm not anti-endearment at all. I'm not really sure what it is that doesn't sound right to me when Noah calls Luke "baby" (or vice-versa). I tend to prefer it when a man calls a woman "baby" (actually, I prefer 'babe'); maybe it's the m/m thing. Or maybe it's their age? I see words like "baby", "sweetie", "honey" as terms a married couple might use. I like it when Noah calls Luke "Snyder" because it's kind of like an inside joke, something familiar that is unique to them, and not generic like the other endearments. You know, like if Noah started calling Luke "Stripes" because of his shirts or something... or Luke called Noah "beans" because of working at Java and liking coffee so much (remember he fixed Emma's old machine in the cellar?). Maybe the short forms might work better (for example, "hon" instead of honey, "babe" instead of baby, etc.). Sorry, I'm not really giving you anything useful here, am I? LOL

You fandom newbies are so cute! LOL (kidding, I'm KIDDING!). Those are most certainly Van's parents. He actually looks a lot like his mom. She sat to his left at the ATWT table during the Awards, and Jen Landon was sitting to his right. You can see his mom easily in many of the shots (look for the shock of white hair). His parents attended with him last year as well. Here's a pic of them on the red carpet in 2007:
