and a good fucking morning to you, too
WTF, LJ. :|

I know Justin was legal. You know Justin was legal. LJ would not consider Justin legal. They could suspend your journal permanently for fic/art without notice based on a TOS they haven't detailed and that constantly changes. That bothers me. Yes, LJ/6A owns their servers, yadayadacakes. But it still bothers me.

(Jenn's journal above is a good starting point ♥, lotsa links that will take you journal hopping around so you can get the whole story. At least from a fandom POV. Haven't heard from LJ yet. :|)

*sigh* I know! The whole crap is starting all over again! These people have nothing better to do and with their "so-called" clarification of TOS, they've only made it worse! They're not even giving notice, just deleting!
I've been trying to get the word out to everyone to back up, back up anything that might be seen as objectionable; or put everything on a duplicate page somewhere! This really sucks!

That's partly what bugs me so much, the no-notice deletions. They have the right to do so, but that doesn't make it a good business practice. Grr.

I so need to start backing things up. I'm not looking forward to it. :| :| :|

Yeah, since all of this has been going on, I'm just waiting to get that "...your account has been permanently suspended" e-mail and wake up to a deleted journal. Because if they are nutso enough to start attacking people who have posted just ONE or two instances of ambiguously minor-related stuff, our fandom is in deep-shit trouble. Because, yeah, there's that whole PREMISE OF THE SHOW type thing to think about. It's only one season, but still.

This stuff freaks me out. :( Where are we all going to go?

The amount of fear I currently have for my mailbox isn't healthy at all. :(( The focus might be on HP fandom right now, but there's no guarantee it stays there. Someone in the 328617439 pages of comments in the news post was wondering: If the art was deleted for simply being HP, regardless of what age he was being depicted at, if they were going by the original source material (the first book). If that IS the case, then we're really fucked. Justin would forever be 17. It wouldn't matter if you wrote S2 fic or future fic where he's 80. The source material says he's 17 and thus it's unacceptable. WTF. And we're not even touching on the problems we'll have if the accusation that it was because of the m/m aspect that it was deleted. :|

GJ seems to be our run-to place. But 2000 icons aside, it sucks there. I don't wanna go. :(( (I bet everytime there's a surge of new journals being made over there, GJ knows some shit has hit LJ's fan, heh.)

At times like these I'm glad that I'm not a fic writer and don't post any arts that would endanger me, but they always come up with new changes, so you can never be safe, I guess. >.< I think I should probably back up my journal once again and maybe even repost everything over at GJ. *sighs*

Yeah, that's what's scary, the constant changes. :( Next it could be a hardcore smackdown on explicit icons. Or not being able to embed youtube vids that they don't agree with. Argh.

I'll be backing up too. Just what we wanted to do, hm. :\

They really are. They're such in the spotlight with easy targets. That's gotta suck when you're just trying to have fun. I always think of QaF being a large fandom, but we're tiny compared to them. I've never been so thankful for that.

Ya know, on the subject of GJ. I roleplay over there and I have to say that its really not that bad. Its just a little behind is all. But LJ is better (besides the icon thing)for actual journal writing and fandom. A lot of what you'll find at GJ is RPG stuff.

And all I have to say is that I hope you or any of the other fandom relate journals don't get deleted. Because that would just ruin my life. :(

Ummmmmmmmmmmmmm...as someone who was involved in the HP fandom a few years ago and as someone who has regressed back, it's highly disturbing.

Especially since no one said anything. Especially since LJ's trying to be sneaky about it. And especially since it's specifically HP that's (mostly) being targeted (while everyone is out of town at conventions, no less!)...I knew one of the artists who was banned (though not personally) and it's a shame. She's great at what she does and has always included warnings on everything adultish.

I'm saving my fic and not renewing my paid account. If shit like this keeps happening, I'm moving out.

I never thought I'd say that, but times are changing. I'm just looking forward to 6A/LJ getting what they deserve. And if that happens to be in the form of some massive lawsuit..well, I'll bring popcorn for everyone.

Of course they are being sneaky again, and they keep silent again, those cowards.
I'm hoping the reason they keep targeting the HP fandom is because it's closely monitored by the public and most likely to get them in trouble. Hopefully that means smaller fandoms will be left in peace.

I'd hate loosing anything here, all those amazing people in the fandom and in general.....*out of words* dammit, it's so unbelievable.

Fuck, I wish this whole frigging mess could just have been a dream/nightmare or something from which we could wake up.

Guess, I'll have to look into that "LJ-archive back-up" thing myself and I hope I'll get it/understand how it works -_-. Ugh, haven't heard of this or checked this out before, but I can already imagine that this is going to be so ugly and tiresome.

Has anyone ever wondered WHY Six Apart is doing this?
I ran across an article from last September on the possibility that Rupert Murdoch is looking at Six Apart to buy. As we know, he imposes his own political views on the way information is disseminated w/in the news organizations he owns--witness Fox News. He also just bought the Wall Street Journal. The paragraph about Six Apart is the last paragraph of the article.

As Dick Parsons, the CEO of Time-Warner recently reflected, Murdoch’s acquisition of MySpace “appears to have been a masterstroke”. Well… good to know that he is taking a similar positive view of the deal as me. My positive outlook reflected my high enthusiasm about social networking and social media in general, which, as those close to me know, I saw coming from a mile away.

I must admit, however, that I did not see the blogosphere coming. The rapid emergence and popularity of blogs most definitely took me by surprise (which is one of the key reasons I decided to blog for GigaOM (thanks Om!)… I needed to understand the phenomenon from the inside, and I get it now). I bring all this up because I believe the blogosphere is about to come face-to-face with the “social media mogul” himself… Rupert Murdoch.

20 years ago, Murdoch saved the British newspaper industry. In an incident known as the “Wapping Dispute“, Murdoch waged war against the print labor unions and forced them to accept less labor-intensive computerized printing technologies. Wapping proved to be one of worst industrial strikes in modern history, yet at the end, Murdoch’s aggressiveness and foresight saved the newspapers from a death spiral caused by technological obsolescence.

Today, the newspaper industry is again facing many challenges and possible extinction. The fiscal problems plaguing iconic brands like the New York Times and the Tribune Company are well documented. But the problem this time is not offset-lithography… it’s the rise of the blogosphere. Simply put, it’s centralized content production and distribution vs. decentralized people media. I have now learned, first hand, how blogging competes with traditional newsprint reporting and publishing.

In a similar vein, Murdoch has learned about the power of people generating content through his ownership of MySpace. Ross Levinsohn, the head of Fox Interactive Media, said precisely that during one of the panel sessions at this week’s OMMA conference… where he states “if Rupert Murdoch can give up control, I think anybody can give up control… if they don’t let the consumers participate in it, it’s not going to go anywhere” (hat tip to I Want Media).

So where does all this leave us? If I was a betting man, I’m going to bet that Murdoch’s next move is to acquire a blogging platform… either Six Apart (which owns Moveable Type, TypePad, LiveJournal, and Vox) or Automattic (owner of WordPress). And if he does, it can prove to be his 21st century “Wapping”.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It looks to me as though the "ethnic cleansing" of gay-oriented material and any ghost of a whiff of underage characters in livejournal might possibly have to do with appealing to the right wing and politicially fundamentalist Christian views of Mr. Murdoch. He has two possible blogging platforms to buy--who knows if the "morals" demonstrated on board might not swing the issue of where his money goes? At least that might be, IMO, the way that TPTB think at Six Apart.
